Obama and Putin hold 'successful' talks

US President Barack Obama has said there is an excellent opportunity to improve relations with Russia during his trip to Moscow.
Following his first ever meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the country's most powerful politician, US officials hailed it as "very successful".
However, the awkwardness between the pair was palpable as they exchanged pleasantries at the start of their talks. Mr Putin mostly looked down and avoided eye contact with the US leader.
The situation was not helped by Mr Obama's criticism last week of Mr Putin - Russia's former President and an ex-KGB spy - as a man with one foot stuck in the past.
Mr Obama stumbled: "I am aware of not only the extraordinary work that you've done on behalf of the Russian people in your previous role as prime minis-, uh, as president, but in your current role as prime minister."
"We link hopes for development of our relationship with your name."
Mr Obama also vowed to take into account Russia's view of its relations with Georgia and Ukraine, according to a senior aide of Mr Putin.......

I'm wondering if our POTUS was having a hard time because he didn't know whether or not to bow to Putin......:angry4:
Our POTUS has the spine of a jelly fish.

I agree, although I fear jellyfish everywhere may be offended. Maybe just no spine of any kind. Except, of course, when standing firm against the enemies of a woman's "right" to choose, and total government takeovers of everything.

Major media spin....he insulted Putin and Russian on his visit. Why is the media lying about the facts of things Obama is involved in and not calling him to task for his ineptitude as a US representative and taking over of this country with his personal agenda?
http://www.rightsidenews.com/200907125433/culture-wars/obamas-insult-to-russia-gets-noticed.html
In the first official visit to Russia, Barack Obama (his name in Russia, interestingly means "barracks" барак) has continued the tradition of his cabinet in making unwitting stupidities and unrecognized insulting gestures.
From Hillery's misnamed button (what there are no native Russian speakers in the US?) to Obama ditching Prime Minister Putin for dinner to go hang out, with his family, at the exclusive club O2 in Moscow, where oligarchs bring their wenches, not their wives. Never mind the question, who brings their small children, daughters no less, to such a club, where high end prostitution and absolute decadence is the absolute norm? Is this the American values advertised?
Of course we should not feel alone, he did the same to President Sarkozy, in Paris, where he blew off the president of France to go on a date with his wife in the city.
While the Anglo media continues to fawn over every action of the American Emperor, to such a degree as to make even our Soviet era state media blush with embarrassment, the gaffs and inadvertent insults pile up. The people of Russia are not amused nor entertained. If anything, this goes to only further uphold the already negatively slanted view.
One of the most important functions a person can be invited to, for Russians, is a dinner. This is a very important social convention to share bread with a guest and to show him honour and respect. In Russian, we have a word for this: гостеприимность or literally, the acceptance of guests. It is a serious black mark on a person, family or organization, if they do not accept guests well. This was taken to such a degree by our ancestors that a nobleman was obligated to make war on another nobleman, if a guest of the first went to the second and was than insulted or treated otherwise poorly.
On the other side of the coin, a guest must be courteous, accept (unless there is a serious reason why he can not and hanging out in an exclusive lounge, populated mostly by high powered thieves and their whores, is not much of an excuse) and should absolutely never, ever come empty handed. Even if it is but a symbolic gift, like candy or flowers, bring something, especially when coming for the first time.
That the US Emperor shows no regard for Russian customs, while in Russia, shows how little things are likely to change and how much the present powers in DC absolutely disregard Russian sensibilities.

An astute student of history, President Obama insulted his Russian hosts with a joke about the sale of Alaska to the United States.
Quote:
Referring to the long history of Russia-U.S. trade stretching back more than two centuries, Obama told an audience of business people in Moscow:
"Along the way, you gave us a pretty good deal on Alaska. Thank you."
Russians consider that sale by Czar Alexander II as a national disgrace.
Way to go Mr President.

Wow....thanks for sharing all of that
But maybe the Russians have to see that our POTUS does NOT hold anything moral or holy or upright - dear or close to his heart. Don't you think someone would have done a little research about Russian customs? This IS the POTUS....one would have thought that someone would have checked out the place first (restaurant). And how about being a good mother Michelle!!??? Did you not think to find out if this 'joint' was appropriate for your children?
Tsk tsk!! How embarrassing!! :angry4:

Anyone with ANY manners knows that you accept an invitation of staying for dinner while at a guests house...the complete lack of class that he and Michelle have shown really make you wonder.....wonder more.

Yeah, and I was always taught that you bring a gift. Doesn't have to be anything extravagant. But to the highest authority in Russia - what an opportune time to bring something that signifies what the values of the US hold dear - something significant in regards to democracy would have been nice. Maybe a beautiful sculpture or painting of our fore-fathers (thinking Abraham Lincoln here) or a replica of the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution....Liberty Bell, etc.
Oh - wait, I forgot who we were speaking of here!! :angry4:
