Pope calls for solidarity between all in New Year’s message

2011-01-01 03:20:00

Rome, Jan 1 (DPA) Pope Benedict XVI called for solidarity between all people in need in his annual New Year’s message Friday.

Modern times are filled with all manner of suffering and drama, some provoked by human evil, other by nature, said the pope. But God’s message of joy and freedom would also reach all people suffering between the holidays, he added.

As it is done every year, the Te Deum was sung during the service, as thanks for the year that has just ended.

The pope is also expected to give his traditional New Year’s mass at 10 a.m. (0900 GMT) Saturday. New Year’s Day is the church’s traditional World Day of Peace.

By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Dec 31, 2010 in Current Issues, Features, Southern Baptist Convention

As part of the online apologetics and discernment work being done here at Apprising Ministries we’ve been covering the upgrading of the sinfully ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church into a full blown neo-liberal cult-an Emerging Church 2.0-now pushing its new form of postmodern Progressive Christianity as “big tent” Emergence Christianity.

It’s also an indisputable fact that, even now, a part of its spiritually lurid legacy is creating the current fad of Protestant evangelicals practicing corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) ala Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster-and his spiritual twin Dallas Willard.

That’s why I’ve so often mentioned before that this spurious CSMa rebirth of Roman Catholic Counter Reformation spirituality-under the quise of Spiritual Formation along with it’s main vehicle of Contemplative/Centering Prayer (CCP)-meditation in an altered state of consciousness-was a core doctrine from the EC’s evil inception.

You may recall, from articles like Southern Baptist Soul Shaping Return To Religious Bondage and Saddleback Church, Rick Warren, And Spiritual Disciplines, that for quite some time now Apprising Ministries has also been covering the influx of this Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism into the Southern Baptist Convention-allegedly the largest Protestant denomination in the United States.

This brings me to the Baptist Press piece posted today called Solemn Assembly: 5-day guide for repentance; unfortunately the SBC, which may stand for Slowly Becoming Catholic, isn’t repenting for turning its back on the Protestant Reformers it pretends to honor. No, instead we read:

An emphasis on repentance is at the heart of the call to solemn assembly issued in the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force report adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention, and resources are available to assist pastors in leading their congregations in the spiritual exercise.

The solemn assembly is to be “for the purpose of calling Christ’s people to return to God, to repentance, and to humility in service to a renewed commitment to Christ and the Great Commission,” with the challenge reiterated by SBC President Bryant Wright and the leaders of the convention’s entities.

At www.namb.net/sbcdayofprayer, Southern Baptists are called to pray corporately and individually on a date in January that best fits a congregation’s needs. The reason for the challenge, according to the website, is because “we have forgotten our first love (Revelation 2:4) and need revival in the SBC. We need God’s direction.” (Online source)

Sure sounds pious, eh: “We need God’s direction.” Well boys, you can start repenting for bowing before your Idol of Autonomy and discipline high profile pastors like Purpose Driven Pope Rick Warren who defecates on the blood of the Reformers bragging: “I see absolutely zero reason in separating my fellowship from anybody”[1]; which includes Rick Warren And Roman Catholics.

Or how about Ed Young, Jr.; leaving aside SBC Pastor Ed Young Jr In Luxury Cover-Up, as I pointed out in “Bishop” T.D. Jakes Blessing Southern Baptists For ED Young, Jr, every year since 2006 Young has had Oneness Pentecostal heretic and Word Faith mogul T.D. Jakes in for his Creative Church Conferences aka C3; and this year Young even added notorious Trinity Broadcasting Network shill Jetezen Franklin.

From here it looks like these guys should be leading the SBC New Year’s repentance parade.

MARRIAGE DIGEST: Obama signals his views on ‘gay marriage’ could change

Posted on Dec 31, 2010 | by Michael Foust

WASHINGTON (BP)–President Obama twice indicated during pre-Christmas interviews that his views on marriage could change and that he may eventually become the first sitting president publicly to support “gay marriage.”

“My feelings about this are constantly evolving. I struggle with this,” he told reporters during a Dec. 22 press conference when asked about “gay marriage.” He said he supports same-sex civil unions and then added, “… I think this is something that we’re going to continue to debate and I personally am going to continue to wrestle with going forward.”

Obama’s views on “gay marriage” have frustrated both sides of the debate. Conservatives have viewed his stance with skepticism because, although he says he opposes “gay marriage,” he has also opposed every law that would stop its legalization. For instance, he opposed California Proposition 8 and he favors the repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which gives states the option of not recognizing another state’s “gay marriage” laws.

The nation’s homosexual groups want Obama to back “gay marriage” — a move they believe would dramatically help their cause. They note that when running for Illinois state senator in the late 1990s, Obama actually backed “gay marriage” before changing his position. ……..

Abbas urges U.S., Europe and U.N. to draft new peace plan

Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:39pm EST

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Middle East power brokers on Friday to draft a new peace plan for the region that could help revive failed U.S.-backed negotiations with Israel.

In a televised speech, Abbas said Palestinians “demand” that the Quartet comprising Washington, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations “draft a peace plan” based on U.N. Security Council resolutions that call for establishing a Palestinian state on land Israel captured in a 1967 war.

Abbas, speaking on the anniversary of the foundation of Palestinians’ mainstream Fatah movement, reiterated a demand for Israel to halt settlement building, the issue over which negotiations launched anew in September foundered just several weeks later.

Palestinians have rejected an offer put by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week to move toward an interim peace deal rather than a final settlement, in order to try and bypass such sticky conflict issues as the future of Jerusalem, settlements and Palestinian refugees.

Western-backed Abbas said he expected Washington to do more to confront Israeli settlement building in the occupied West Bank, part of land where Palestinians want to establish their state…..

Is 2011 the Year?

Happy New Year, ya’ll!! :party3:

Is 2011 the Year?

By Justin Edwards

Well 2010 is just about behind us! It has been an incredible year on many fronts, both personally and for the Church. Just as midnight will take us into the new year, the midnight hour of God’s prophetic time clock is about to strike. While the world continues to carry on as if it always has, events continue to line up in preparation for the Last Things of Scripture to come to pass. Israel has been further isolated and is facing the greatest threats to her survival since 1948; the world is on the brink of major war on multiple fronts; the threat of terrorism looms in most Western countries; the economy is in dire straights; Russia and China are on the rise; religions continue to consciously merge and unify for the sake of peace, hunger, and poverty; nations are losing their sovereignty as global governance becomes more of a reality; and the visible church continues to sink into apostasy. This all sounds like doom and gloom doesn’t it? Unless of course, you are called, redeemed, and sealed by the One True God of the universe!

As born again believers, we have so much to look forward to in 2011. This could very well be the year the dominoes of biblical prophecy take their final bow. So what does that mean for you? The Apostle Paul tells us exactly how we should be living in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11,

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. 5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming, brothers and sisters, whether it is in 2011 or the soon coming years. We cannot escape the obvious signs around us, the very ones Jesus Himself told us to look for and for which to lift our heads because our Redemption is drawing near. We are on the final stretch, so let us strive for the finish line with everything we have and finish the race well, and may we all share in these words from Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8,

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

If you have yet to submit your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, have doubts about your salvation, or are living a lifestyle that is contrary to the Word of God (if you don’t know the answer to that, this should be telling for you), then please, by all means, make today and the days to come earth-shattering for your life. We are called to examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5) and to make our calling and election sure (2 Peter 2:10). We do this by examining our lives in light of Scripture, using it as a mirror to see whether we see our reflection in it. In other words, is the lifestyle we are living one that is conforming to the Lord Jesus Christ and His written Word, or is our lifestyle conformed to the world and the things of the world?

There are numerous resources here on airō to challenge and help you examine yourself in the Word of God, so please take some time in the coming days and weeks to do this. Your very soul may be hanging in the balance, as if you’re swinging on a string of silk over the flames of hell ready to be singed and cast into the lake of fire for all eternity. It would be so tragic if you died, fully expecting to enter heaven with your fire insurance policy, only to find out you believed in vain all of these years because you refused to submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He is calling you now, no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done. Through repentance and faith, you can become a child of God today. For “the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).

Whether you are in Christ now or have yet to fall at His feet in surrender, I pray 2011 is the year you fall more in love with the One who sacrificed everything for you, or you fall in love with Him for the very first time.

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. – Revelation 22:17

Australia floods larger than France strand 200,000

Dec 31, 7:12 AM (ET)

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) – Military aircraft dropped supplies to towns cut off by floods in northeastern Australia as the prime minister promised new assistance Friday to the 200,000 people affected by waters covering an area larger than France and Germany combined.

Residents were stocking up on food or evacuating their homes as rising rivers inundated or isolated 22 towns in the state of Queensland.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard toured an evacuation center in the flood-stricken town of Bundaberg on Friday and announced that families whose homes had been flooded or damaged would be eligible for disaster relief payments of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child.

“My concern is for the people in these very difficult times,” Gillard said.

A day earlier, she pledged $1 million Australian dollars (about $1 million) in federal aid to match a relief fund already set up by the state government.

Bundaberg resident Sandy Kiddle told Gillard she lost cherished items after floodwaters surged through her house. She said may not be able to return home for a week.

“It was just a sea of water, and I thought the beach would never come to our house,” she told Gillard, who gave her a hug.

Officials say half of Queensland’s 715,305 square miles (1,852,642 square kilometers) is affected by the relentless flooding, which began last week after days of pounding rain caused swollen rivers to overflow. The flood zone covers an area larger than France and Germany combined and bigger than the state of Texas.

While the rain has stopped, the rivers are still surging to new heights and overflowing into low-lying towns as the water makes its way toward the sea.

The muddy water inundating thousands of homes and businesses has led to a shortage of drinking water and raised fears of mosquito-borne disease.

“This is without a doubt a tragedy on an unprecedented scale,” Queensland Premier Anna Bligh told Australian Broadcasting Corp.

Bligh warned that drenched communities could be stuck underwater for more than a week, and cleanup efforts were expected to cost billions of dollars.

The Department of Community Safety said supplies of food and bedding were delivered by road and by military aircraft Friday to the towns of Rockhampton, Emerald, Springsure and Blackwater in central-east Queensland.

Northeastern Australia often sees heavy rains and flooding during the Southern Hemisphere summer, but the scope of the damage from the recent downpours is unusual……………………http://apnews.myway.com/article/20101231/D9KESHH00.html

As Netanyahu’s coalition struggles, Peres may need to step in

President Shimon Peres must decide if he’s ready to do what he does best – present his vision of the future in order to fend off disaster.

Latest update 10:31 31.12.10

A little voice bearing sensational news has been making itself heard in recent weeks near the President’s Residence: President Shimon Peres, it whispers, has gone back half a century in time to the 1950s to resume his position as “the man in the blue suit.” That’s how he was known back then when he made hundreds of visits to French government offices behind the backs of both the Foreign Ministry and the Israeli embassy in Paris. Peres was consumed those days with carrying out the historic mission of creating the magnificent Israeli arms industry, at the behest of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion.

Present-day Peres, the whispering voice continues, is not only a president of ceremonies, condolence visits or festive speeches. He is also deeply involved in drawing up policy. He has been at work writing plans, documents and proposals, which make their way overseas, return and again are sent on their way to mysterious correspondents. The president holds regular meetings with senior officials of the Palestinian Authority and with international figures. He has burned up the presidential phone line speaking with leaders and foreign ministers, in an attempt to move things forward. He spends hour upon hour with the Israeli chief of staff and with the heads of the intelligence community……………………http://www.haaretz.com/weekend/week-s-end/as-netanyahu-s-coalition-struggles-peres-may-need-to-step-in-1.334469

Abbas lays first stone of Palestinian embassy in Brazil

Doves released as PA president attends ceremony in Brasilia to place cornerstone in ground donated by Brazilian gov’t which will become first state-level Palestinian diplomatic mission in South America.

12/31/2010 19:38

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday laid the first stone of what is set to become a Palestinian embassy in Brazil.

Abbas carried out the ceremony in Brasilia, placing the stone in ground donated by the Brazilian government in the same district as other diplomatic missions.

Doves were released during the ceremony to represent peace, though one of the birds perched on Abbas’ head which provoked laughter among the crowds that gathered.

At the beginning of December Brazil said it had recognized the state of Palestine based on borders at the time of Israel’s 1967 conquest of the West Bank.

The Foreign Ministry said the recognition is in response to a request made by Abbas in November to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Silva sent a letter to Abbas on Dec. 1, saying Brazil recognizes Palestine and hopes that the recognition will help lead to states of Israel and Palestine “that will coexist peacefully and in security.”

On Thursday Abbas said his new attempt to get the United Nations to condemn Israeli settlements was specifically designed to win US support.

The Palestinians have drafted a proposal and are lobbying for a Security Council resolution that would declare West Bank settlements illegal and an “obstacle to peace.”

The US has said it does not support the move. Israel says it’s an attempt by the Palestinians to avoid negotiations………………..http://www.jpost.com/DiplomacyAndPolitics/Article.aspx?id=201710

The events of 2010 could well have set the stage for the fulfillment of end time prophecy in 2011

December 31, 2010

The geopolitical events of 2010, like the United States military pullout from Iraq, Iran’s continued development of a nuclear weapon of mass destruction, the Afghan war, and the potential for Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to become once again president of his nation have a connection to the prewritten history found in Bible prophecy.

However, the most significant indicators of the of the times of the end upon us is what has unfolded in the Middle East in 2010 and what 2011 seems to hold for our world is dramatic evidence of the fulfillment of all Bible prophecy in God’s Word.

Jimmy’s Prophetic Prospective on the News

Even though the prophetic evidence from God’s Word seems to say the return to earth by Jesus Christ is very close at hand there are still those who deny that Jesus will come back very soon.

The Bible teaches that no one can know for sure when the prophetic scenario in God’s Word will be fulfilled and Jesus will return to the earth to set up His kingdom. However, Jesus in His Olivet Discourse, found in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 reveals that He gave His disciples just before His death a number of significant indicators to look for which would signal the Lord’s return to the earth. A short list of these events during 2010 as they relate to Bible prophecy can help us to truly recognize the times in which we are living.

The war in Afghanistan (Ezekiel 38:5), the US troop pullout from war torn Iraq (Revelation 18), and the desire of Russia’s Prime Minister Putin to regain his leadership role in Russia (Ezekiel 38:2), plus the repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy of the United States military (Luke 17) all point to the fact that we are living in the last days.

The ancient Jewish prophet Daniel foretold of a strong political power arising in the last days in Europe, Daniel 7:7-24, which is actually a prophecy of the revived Roman Empire. However, if an honest observer of current events unfolding in the Middle East will compare these present activities to the end times scenario found in God’s Word, they will understand how close we are to the Lord’s return in 2011. The evidence can be seen as we watch Iran and its partners, the Moslem nations, align themselves against Israel (Ezekiel 38). In Ezekiel 35 and Obadiah we can see foretold that the Palestinians will take the land from the Jewish people and the Jewish desire to see a temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, and Revelation 11:1 is absolute evidence to indicate that all Bible prophecy is about to be fulfilled.
